About our materials: Stefanie Wolf Designs is deeply committed to working with materials that have been sourced in an ethical, fair and sustainable way. Although we cannot yet claim that 100% of our stones, metals and components are sustainably sourced, we are proud to be on the cutting edge of artisan jewelers. Stefanie is a member of Ethical Metalsmiths, a community of concerned artisans lobbying for responsibly sourced materials, and she tirelessly asks industry suppliers for higher levels of accountability. Currently less than a handful of semi-precious stone suppliers can actually guarantee responsible sourcing, yet Stefanie Wolf Designs is part of a growing number small businesses and artisans asking for real change in the industry. Frustrated by the limited availability of gemstones that are guaranteed as ethically sourced, we recently turned our attention to a completely renewable resource: recycled glass. Stefanie is thrilled to announce the recent addition of eco-friendly jewelry to her collections, handcrafted from 100% recycled glass and sterling silver. Our jewelry lines include the Root Rocks collection featuring vibrant natural gemstones with innate healing qualities, the Trilogy line featuring handmade glass tiles ethically made in a small European crafting village, and the new Recycled Elements line with recycled glass and silver.

About the artist:

Since the beginning of recorded time, men and women have worn gemstones for their beauty, power and sheer endurance. In fact, many say that the origin of jewelry itself was for the purpose of keeping healing and protective gemstones close to the body, not just for pure adornment. A healer by nature, Stefanie has been drawn to the beauty and power of gemstones since her rock collection days as a kid. In 2004 she started her jewelry company to help fund her graduate education, and as a good excuse for some healthy creative expression. Now Stefanie Wolf Designs is a small, socially conscious jewelry company, where each piece of jewelry is handcrafted in her San Francisco home studio. Nature provides the inspiration for her vibrant creations: the power and beauty of the ocean, the magic of island life, and the energy of the natural stones she incorporates in her designs.

A San Francisco native, she also has roots on the islands of Martha’s Vineyard and Maui. Stefanie searches high and low for the most exceptional stones, ceramic, precious metal and glass elements for her work. She pays special attention to the journey taken by each element on the way to her design studio and does everything possible to ensure ethical and sustainable sourcing. When she’s not creating jeweled treasures, she can be found surfing, doing yoga, or sailing on the bay with her husband Chuck.
